Hill Road, Boise - Completed 2016

36th St./Hill Rd./Catalpa Dr. “Dogbone” Roundabout

An existing busy, five-legged intersection in the City of Boise was well known for congestion and excessive delays.  The odd configuration of existing roadways meeting at skewed angles resulted in the signalized intersection experiencing up to one-mile long traffic backups, especially during school start and end times at the adjacent middle school.  Civil Survey Consultants (CSC) was hired by ACHD to survey and design the intersection using a dual roundabout concept that had been condensed into a “dogbone-shaped” intersection.  Challenges to the project, in addition to providing safe routes for the school’s students, was the expansion of adjacent commercial development and increased traffic, accommodating the popular east-west bike route along Hill Road, and minimizing impacts to an established floodplain for the Stuart Gulch, which crossed the western limits of the intersection.  The area was successfully reconstructed in 2016 resulting in a safe and efficient intersection for all users.

Whitewater Park Blvd.

Survey and Design of over one-mile of five-lane arterial roadway connecting Fairview Avenue to State Street in downtown Boise, ID.  Project was constructed in 2013, providing an important north-south connection through the City.  The new roadway was a key component for redevelopment of river front property, including construction of the Esther Simplot Whitewater Park.  The project featured the first multi-lane roundabout in Ada County.  Today the roadway serves as the main corridor for economic re-growth and recreation for the City of Boise.
